Tips for Heartburn and Reflux Sufferers

 If you’ve never experienced heartburn or reflux, then imagine this…

  • Swallowing draino
  • Eating chunks of molten metal
  • Breathing fire like a dragon

This is what heartburn and reflux feel like. I know because I used to have it…often.

What to do about heartburn and reflux:

  1. Take a probiotic diet supplement (acidophilus, bifidus factor, etc): This is a supplement to keep your friendly digestive system bacteria at optimum levels.
  2. Take digestive enzymes with meals to help breakdown food: this is a temporary treatment while your stomach bacteria is replenishing. After a few months you can discontinue.
  3. Eat smaller meals: a full stomach creates upward pressure and causes more reflux
  4. Avoid offending foods: spicy food, tomato, chocolate, alcohol, caffiene, carbonated drinks
  5. Get your middle back adjusted by your chiropractor: a very common sign of mid back vertebral malfunciton is heartburn
  6. Lose a few pounds: decreased belly fat reduces pressure on the stomach
  7. Observe good sitting posture and take frequent breaks while working on computer, at desk, etc
  8. Avoid excessive use of antacids, they can be harmful to your health

Which of these items did I find helpful for my heartburn?

  • ALL OF THEM!

Try any one of them and maybe you’ll have less frequent heartburn, but until you totally normalize your stomach and digestive tract you will get repeated heartburn.

What to do when heartburn strikes:

Take a quarter teaspoon oif baking soda in 6 oz. of water, drink and wait for a tremendous belch. Once you burp up, the heartburn will resolve.   

-or-

Take half a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in 6 oz water. This will not result in a big belch, but will quickly dissipate the heartburn pain.

I prefer the baking soda, but both work.  Do NOT overdo it. It takes very little of either ingredient to give relief. Excessive use can be harmful.

Stop covering up your heartburn and fix it. These items really can make a difference. I know because they worked for me.
